What Oprah Eats at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago

The media mogul has some favorite foods from Trump’s estate

The mansion was built in 1926 by cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather-Post.

Mar-a-Lago is Republican frontrunner Donald Trump’s lavish and palatial Palm Beach estate and private club, a Mediterranean-style mansion with 118 rooms that was built in 1926 by a cereal heiress. Today, Trump uses it to entertain and escape from the daily grind, and members can stay there and also use the ballroom (which Trump added in 2005) to host grand events.

There’s a restaurant on the property at Mar-a-Lago, but its menu isn’t available online. We do have an idea of what some of the most popular dishes are, though, thanks to none other than Oprah Winfrey, who threw an 80th birthday party for Maya Angelou there in 2008.

Apparently, Oprah is a big fan of Mar-a-Lago’s turkey burger, of all things. Enough so to post the recipe online. "I believe [it] may be the best turkey burger in the entire world," Oprah has said. The recipe calls for sautéed apples and Tabasco sauce, among other things. The burger is topped with pear chutney, which she also published the recipe for.

Finally, Oprah is also a fan of Mar-a-Lago’s key lime pie, which is supposedly the most-requested dessert at the club. Made with a graham cracker crust and plenty of key lime juice, it’s a fairly straightforward recipe, and you can find it on Oprah’s site here.

Turkey burger recipe fit for Donald Trump and Oprah

Jeff O'Neill certainly is no apprentice in the kitchen.

As executive chef at Donald Trump's exclusive Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla., he has prepared haute cuisine for some of the world's most discriminating palates.

Yet these days, O'Neill is known the world over for a little turkey burger that recently received the biggest endorsement on earth: Oprah named it one of her "favorite things" of the summer and brought him on her show to prepare it.
In the weeks since the May show, the recipe has been making the Internet rounds, and it has been added to the menus of Trump-owned restaurants in New York and Chicago. O'Neill developed the recipe last October as a heart-healthy offering on the club's lunch menu, sparing no expense on ingredients and adhering to Trump's philosophy to "make it better than anyone else." The resulting burger bursts with flavor of Granny Smith apples, scallions, parsley, chipotle Tabasco and -- the secret ingredient -- Major Grey's Chutney.

"(Oprah) discovered a burger just by being a guest (at Mar-a-Lago) and said, 'wow,'" he said.
